I wasn't sure what was meant with what appears to be written like more of a challenge.Īny head guy or induction oriented builder should have the capability to do more than port a head for some CFM #'s. I mainly use the slightly bigger valves as a measure to control the stem height, they actually worsen flow characteristics until the porting is sufficient to establish valve OD/port throat size relationships.]Ĭlick to expand. My previous comment to this was out of curiosity. [If your existing seats aren't worn badly, I'd use the smaller valves with good port work. The manifolds will work nearly as well as a short tube header with a higher overlap cam, anyways. If you use wide lobe separation events with a large-ish cam, your low and midrange will suffer despite the apparently smoother idle.Ī higher overlap (tighter lobe sep.) will help in absence of said headers. The main concern I'd have with over-camming is in regards to the (exhaust) manifolds being used. There's plenty of fun to be had below 6500. There's no need to rev the engine past the limits of the rods. There's enough converter and gear to get past the fear of 'lack of low end grunt'.ĭecently ported heads that flow 'fast air' have a strong tendency to increase the response in the lower part of the powerband.they wake things up big time down low. If I'm not the one creating the flow #'s then I need them before spec'ing anything out.ĭon't be afraid of a big cam, with good port work it can offer huge midrange gains. I have machines and a flow bench to use as tools for deciding those things. Would it be better to spend the money to put in different pistons vs doing the head work? I cant do both.Īnd what cam would you guyes recomend for this engine? I hope that you guys could help me in the corect direction I dont know if that is the best thing to do. shave the heads for higher comp (But I dont know how much) I dont think I can find any one in my part of the World that has, exept for maybe stock rebuilds. He has't worked on Buick engines befor sadly. I have talked to a machinshop that is willing to help me. I need to use the stock exhaust manifolds. Supose to stall at 2400-2800 acording to CK depending on engine. quadrajet is profesjonaly rebuilt with upgrades stock 1971 Buick SBB 350 with 4port quadrajet.
